It came as a great shock to you that after Hollywood’s constant glamorization of post-9/11 apathy, cynicism, fear, nihilism, and violence that sooner or later one of their products would do precisely what it was destined to do? If we expect that optimistic art will inspire people to be optimistic or commit acts of good, why do we have difficulty understanding that pessimistic art will inspire people to be pessimistic or commit acts of evil? Film is the most effective propaganda tool of human civilization, which is why the Ku Klux Klan and Adolf Hitler, among others, utilized it so fully (and why the United States uses it so deftly now).

No artist exists in the vacuum. No art is apolitical. The artists who insists their art has no political point of view is simply employing a preemptive filter in order to receive praise and accolades, but avoid accountability, censorship, and responsibility. It’s a very understandable charade, but it IS a charade.

The relationship between art and life is reciprocal. Any artist that denies that is delusional, dishonest, or in denial.
